These 5 Indonesia’s Most Outer Islands will Indulge Adventure Lovers

Bagikan

Indonesia is an archipelago, a country formed from tens of thousands scattered islands apart from its major islands. It brings Indonesia with multiple remote islands that are located on the outer most part of the country. According to Indonesia Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesia has 111 of them, spread out all over the country.

In spite of the fact that they are still parts of Indonesia, many of them are even closer to neighboring countries than to main part of Indonesia, or even facing to the open sea directly.

Indubitably it’s not a hop, skip and a jump away to those islands, but for those who loves adventure the immensely natural islands, untouched by modernization will make the hard efforts paid off. So let’s check it out.

1. Rondo Island

This island is located in the most north part of Indonesia and is actually the real “kilometer zero” or Km 0 of Indonesia – Indonesian term for marking the starting point. However, the kilometer zero monument, is now located in Sabang city since it is more accessible.

Located near to the border with India’s Nikobar Islands, this island is under Sabang administrative, a district in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province. Sabang itself is located in remote island apart from main Sumatera Island, precisely in Weh Island.

Rondo island is not easy to be accessed and located quite far; one will need a motorboat or helicopter to get there. This island is also uninhibited, though it has military personel that guards the border, a lighthouse, and helicopter pad.

Even so, the white sands, lush forest, and the beautiful marine life would be a waste to be missed. You can swim, fish, snorkeling, or explore the forest in this island.

2. Asu Island

Asu derived from local slang that means “Dog”.  So this island’s unique name attributable to its unique shape that resembles dog. Asu Island is located in Sirombu, Nias District, North Sumatra Province, very near to Hindia Ocean.

This island attracts a lot of surfers because of its enormous wave that can reach up to 4-7 meters high. The white sands, blue gradient waters, sun, and coconuts tree that lines up are also the island would be hard to miss.

3. Berhala Island
